We haven't been back to Washington DC for years, so we decided it was time for another visit. Following the debacle of the BA Executive Club demolition, we decided to blow some Avios and a Companion Voucher.

I've not had a very early start ahead of a trip for a long time. I often stay at a hotel the night before nowadays. Today I was up not long after 3am. That's an early start!

Another exciting trip to Hawaii that I booked months ago to take advantage of a 180+ day low-cost fare basis. Out of all of the Hawaiian islands, I always choose O'Ahu if I am travelling on my own. There's so much to see and do in Waikiki and I don't need to book a hire car to get around.

My first trip to Hawaii in more than 12 months - I'm getting withdrawal symptoms! This trip starts in Amsterdam and follows the well-trodden path of flying over to Hawaii via London Heathrow, New York JFK and Los Angeles LAX. I start with an initial positioning flight from Heathrow to Amsterdam.

At the tube station, I only had to wait for one minute for a train to arrive and then it was a short walk back to the HGI at Hatton Cross to pay for my parking and for me to get in the car to drive home.

I had a good wander around the terminal building, well, the departures level anyway - I couldn't be bothered going down to one of the lounges. As I understand it, they are not much to write home about anyway.

I had a quick wander around the terminal and it was quite busy - busier than it was two weeks ago. I am not sure the bars were open last time I was here.

After arriving at Heathrow T3, I headed straight up to Fast Track Security which was empty, so there was no delay heading through the the new 3D scanners.
