I’ve wanted to do a Round the World (RTW) trip for as long as I can remember. It was always one of those “one day” ideas — something the Vickster and I might build into a future Australia trip, or perhaps save for a milestone year.

As my POD arrived at Heathrow T5, I was lucky enough to catch a lift heading up to departures. If you time things badly, you can end up waiting a fair amount of time before a lift deems it appropriate to stop on your floor.

Phase 1 of my odd holiday got off to a fairly traditional start: a drive to London Heathrow, via the A34 and M4. Although, it turned out to be anything other than normal.

Phase 1 is pretty straight forward. I've got a flight to Amsterdam with BA on the Thursday, I'm staying overnight at the Hilton at Schiphol Airport and then on the Friday morning, I'm heading back to Heathrow, early doors.

It was another morning when I awoke with a start, my alarm going off at 3:30am. By 4am I was in an Uber heading to the airport and by 4:30am.
