Weekend in Stockholm in Aug 2023: Day 3 – Morning in Stockholm

After a shaky start to our stay at the Hilton Slussen, we looked forward to another day in the amazing city of Stockholm and another day of sport was on the agenda.

We both slept pretty well in our comfy bed at the Hilton and by 8am we were thinking about coffee! Of course that was after we had swapped anniversary cards. 23 years – who’d have guessed we would have lasted that long? Ouch…

I had suggested that I could « pop out » and pick up a Starbucks and bring them back to save Vick the trip (earning some brownie points) but Vick reminded me that it was at least a 20 min walk, so they would be cold by the time I had returned. Fair point.

It was also an appropriate since we realised the stores didn’t open until 9am anyway!

We ended up walking out to Starbucks and enjoying a leisurely stroll along our now familiar street into the Old Town. It was an overcast day in Stockholm and it was a tad on the chilly side, so it was definitely jumper weather.

We enjoyed our coffees in the comfort of a jolly nice settee in the Starbucks store.

From there, we headed back to the hotel and took in a late breakfast in the hotel. There was an area specially set aside for Diamond/Gold members. The breakfast buffet was fairly decent with a good selection of the normal breakfast items, so our morning had gotten off to a good start.

The morning was going to conclude with another footballing event: the Women’s World Cup final between England and Spain.

We had booked a table at Pitcher’s and we checked in at the pub at around 11:30am. Overall Pitcher’s is a great place to enjoy a bit of sport. They take reservations and have plenty of tables and plenty of TV screens!

The match kicked off at midday but the game didn’t following the English script. We lost 1-0, but along the way we had enjoyed a drink and shared a plate of dirty fries, so again, these tourists were well satisfied.

Back to the hotel to commisserate!
