Having arrived at a gate on the other side of the concourse, we got a different level of service on arrival.

The airbridge was connected, and there was a short delay whilst the arrival team got themselves prepared.

Once off, I asked the despatcher whether she could let us through the glass door, and she agreed. Saved us having to jog through the airport!

Dan and I met a couple of guys doing a load of B2Bs, with the primary objective of earning vouchers and space releases to enable their families to fly to Australia in First Class. That story sounds very familiar!

On into seat 01F – my favourite!

The cabin crew told me that they expected 48 in Club Europe on the way home, so the curtain was halfway down the aircraft. In fact, I had to squint to see it!

There was a delay whilst we waited for some missing passengers. When they arrived, the captain advised that we had an ATC restriction preventing us from pushing back for 80 mins.

After resigning ourselves to a boring wait on board, stuck at the gate, 5 mins later, the captain advised that the ATC restrictions were being lifted, and we were ready to push back. Yes!

The cabin crew handed out menus, and it was good to see a different choice of meals.

I went for the lamb, which was gorgeous. I gave the starter a wide berth as normal.

The cheese included a blue, which wasn’t up my street, but the crackers and bread were nice accompaniments to the cheddar.

The pudding was another abulous mousse, which I couldn’t get enough of. It might, however, spoil the curry I would be gorging myself on when I got home!

I tried to get some shuteye but struggled to turn off.

We landed around a little behind schedule, but considering Storm Bert, I think we did pretty well.

Considering all the hoo-haa over Storm Bert, there was very little challenge in landing on runway 27L.

We were held up slightly, waiting for a Virgin Atlantic aircraft passing across us.

We arrived at Gate 31, and I was pleased to see minimal delay in attaching the airbridge.

I jogged down to Arrivals, which was empty, and I was soon through.
