Starbucks was very relaxing, and I needed the caffeine top-up and breakfast. The staff were friendly, which was a bonus.

Not long before I decided to drop the rental car off, I had to deal with some work-related emails, then I got back on the road.

The car rental return was a couple of miles away and it was very calm. In fact, as I walked through the airport into security, it was dead quiet. There was no one going through security and very few passengers airside. Perhaps, in the warmth of Palm Springs, the day starts much later than everywhere else?

I had a wander around. There was not a lot going on, so I plonked myself down at Gate 12 and waited patiently.

Announcement in the terminal: “Will a Brock Hunter (classic American name) please check your pockets for your rental car keys. Please return them to Avis in the rental car center”. Everyone chuckled, other than Brock, who looked mighty embarrassed!

All roller bags needed to be valet checked, which was exactly what I needed. So worst case, I’d definitely get my bag back in Phoenix.

We boarded about 30 mins before scheduled departure, and the gate staff thought my rucksack would be fine. It was tight, but the locker was shut without incident. Relief…

It was a very short flight, so I didn’t bother with any drinks etc.

We arrived into Gate B15B. I was first off, and headed across to the AA Lounge located at the low B Gates.
