Tier Point Run to Hawaii/San Juan in Feb 2014: Day 5 – Los Angeles LAX to Miami MIA

Well today has been another adventure in many ways. On arrival from Honolulu, I headed to the AA Flagship Lounge as normal and picked up a post from Filthy Monkey that he and his girlfriend were not far behind me.

On the basis that we had started talking about leaving things for other travellers on FT to find, I organised a simple treasure hunt.

After providing some directions to find the “treasure” (a half used bottle of ketchup), I quickly wrote a note and hid them both. I then had to whizz off to catch my flight to MIA.

The flight was a 767, so it had sloping flat beds again and the Samsung Tablet for entertainment. The F cabin was full as normal, and I settled in next to a guy that looked a bit fishy.

The other thing to point out is that due to the treasure hunt work, I was one of the last people to get on board, and that’s never happened to me before. It was a bit scary really – would I find space in the overhead locker?

It was also supposed to have Wifi but for some reason it wasn’t working. I asked two or three times, and by the time the CC checked with the captain, apparently the captain said it wasn’t working.

Why would the captain be in charge of wifi? Seems odd that.

The plane had arrived the previous evening, so no delays, and in fact I was impressed with how professional the CC were in getting the flight ready for departure.

We got our welcome drink prior to leaving, and then breakfast was served – I chose the granola trying to be vaguely healthy for a change. It was very tasty.

Water was dished out later, and I was pleased to see the warm cookies make a welcome return to service. I always go for the chocolate chip.

So how was my neighbour on this flight? Unfortunately, I tend to take 2 steps forward and 1 step back, and I had the two steps forward in the previous two flights.

Unfortunately it was potentially a step back this time.

Got a gay guy who is the other half to a well known TV producer and he’s had dinner with David Beckham and Harry out of One Direction!

I don’t know how I choose them, but there were no questionnaires up front, which I think was my mistake!

Got some good photos during the flight which are scattered around this post. On arrival we were ahead of schedule by about 20 mins and Miami ATC delayed us so we had to circle and then follow the coast south before turning back towards Miami.

Anyway, we got down safe and sound which is the main thing.

For some reason unknown to me, I offered to guest him into the Admirals Club – as he was heading to the Caribbean he wasn’t allowed to use it (even though he was flying business).

Anyway, I guested in this guy, gave him my two drinks vouchers, spoke with Vick via Skype and then moved to the premium lounge on concourse E.

He was a nice guy, but there were a few comments he made that made me feel a bit uncomfortable including him saying he was happy to be my “+1” for getting into the Admirals Club. Oh no…

Once I got back on line I found that Filthy Monkey had found the treasure and posted a picture of it on line, which made me and Vick laugh. It’s nice when this sort of thing happens.

Looking forward to my last flight of the day which would take 2 hours and 30 mins to take me East to Puerto Rico which was one time zone closer to the UK.
