Tier Point Run to Hawaii in Feb 2024: Day 3 – Morning in Honolulu
After my 2-3 mile walk last night, I hit the sack at about 10pm. I slept through to about 2am, which isn’t bad for me, especially when I had already enjoyed over 2 hours kip earlier in the evening.
I carried on with some work on The Dovecote biodiversity enhancements first thing and that took me to 4am, within striking distance of Starbucks opening at 4:30am.
I found a new store: a Starbucks Reserve just down the road, so I wouldn’t need to trudge up towards the Zoo to pick up my coffee. Not that a bit of exercise is a bad thing, but a change is as good as a rest as they say.
After picking up my coffee, I enjoyed 5 mins sitting in the store. The barista had been very friendly, so that was a positive. I headed back to my room to carry on with some work.
Breakfast started at 6am in the TR Firegrill, a restaurant connected to the hotel.
I registered at the podium just outside the restaurant in the hotel and I had a lovely chat with the Thai manager, who had been living in Hawaii for 5 years. She picked up my accent and I appologised that I was clueless about accents.
I ordered the breakfast burrito with potatoes and portuguese sansuage, which was really nice.
The burrito wasn’t a typical burrito, but I wasnt going to complain considering it was effectively free.
I wandered out to pick up my second Starbucks of the day, together with doing a bit of window-shopping.
I ended up down at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (HHV) again, so I picked up a coffee and wandered down to the beach.
It was only 8:30am and it was too hot for me in the sun, so I looked for some shade to sit and chill near the beach.
On the way back I popped into Crazy Shirts and invested in a nice Hawaiian t-shirt. Not found anything for the Mrs as yet, but I continue to look!
Back to the hotel and I blagged an upgrade into one of the Hilton Waikiki Beach’s one-bed suites on the 26th floor.
You just need to ask and offer a vaguely believable reason and as a Diamond member, there’s a good chance you may get lucky!
