Tier Point Run to Cancun in Jan 2014: Day 8 – London (LCY) to Amsterdam (AMS)

Early in the morning on the way to Amsterdam
Early in the morning on the way to Amsterdam

I had about an hour at LCY before my flight to AMS. In planning the itinerary I had included about 4 hours contingency at AMS before picking up my BA Avios return trip back to the UK.

I decided I really couldn’t face 4 hours in a dour BA lounge at AMS, and I would much rather spend that time in T5 First Lounge.

So I rang BAEC Gold Line to see whether they would consider changing the return portion to pick up the earlier flights. Amazingly after a few minutes the girl at the end of the phone said yes! I had even already checked in as well. So now I’d be at AMS for only an hour, in T5 First for about 3 hours, then back to MAN by 4:30pm – at least 2 hours earlier than originally planned! I was well chuffed.

Boarded the AMS flight – a City Jet and I was the only one in Business, so I got special treatment – my own personal safety briefing and I got my hot breakfast which was ok – reminded me about the old BMI hot breakfasts on the MAN-EDI flights.

Took some shots of the climb out of LCY – nothing spectacular, but nice to see. Flight only lasted about 40 mins and we were down. The taxi to the gate took almost as long!!! AMS airport is huge.

Finally arrived and then the bridge didn’t work and we had to walk down some steps instead. In to the terminal and just had to get through one security check to reach the gate I would be catching the 11:55 flight back to LHR.
