Tier Point Run to Grand Cayman in Dec 2013

Bit scary this - my first overseas trip by air on my own! At 47! I’ve always had someone in tow to rely on for finding my way around, or picking up things from hotel rooms when I have left them, and there’s no one but myself to rely on.

Headed off to the gate with about 45 mins to departure. Aiming to be ready to get on early as soon as they announce boarding.

The plane for this segment is a 763. I think it’s the first time I’ve flown on a 763 on one of these AA flights which are two class flights. That means we get flat bed seats. It’s a wide body and feels like we get a bit more space as well. It was packed though.

We also got Samsung 10.1 tablets which was great. I found my favourite film of all time – All the President’s Men – so I watched that first, and then I started watching Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to finish this one so I need to catch the last hour at some stage. Vick wouldn’t like this film though – it’s got a fair amount of gratuitous torture in it.

Dinner was great – I had previously order the peppered beef, and it came with a potato gratin, and spinach. Good salad and a chicken thing up front. Finally got B&J’s ice cream with hot fudge sauce. So good food all round, and I almost forgot the warm cookies – first time on this trip. Wonderful.

Main FA in First was a fairly surly old woman, but I think she warmed to me through the flight, so I saw a nicer side to her personality later on.

Only downside of the 763 was that there was no wifi so I couldn’t get as much benefit out of the GoGo all day pass.

Flight was on time leaving again, and arrived early. Annoyingly in these situations, you turn up early and get held up due to another aircraft still being at your gate. Never mind.

Was off sharpish at LAX gate 47B and was back in the Flagship Lounge opposite gate 40 in no time at all. Very quiet in there, but attentive staff as normal so no complaints. Same dinner as last night (not that I had any).
