Tier Point Run to Hawaii in Feb 2024

My first trip to Hawaii in more than 12 months - I'm getting withdrawal symptoms! This trip starts in Amsterdam and follows the well-trodden path of flying over to Hawaii via London Heathrow, New York JFK and Los Angeles LAX. I start with an initial positioning flight from Heathrow to Amsterdam.

From the Air Train, I went down on the escalator (in the middle) for a change (rather than using the lift at one end) and it took me into a tunnel before I needed to cross the road.  It felt very different to my normal walk when arriving into T7 and heading to the Air […]

My flight to JFK left from Gate 46B in the heart of the T4 bubble at the end of the pier.  I was treated to the Concierge Key treatment at the gate when a petite Asian woman held a tablet up with my name on it.  She told me I could pre-board ahead of group […]

It was seriously cold at JFK when I left T7 and headed to the Sky Train.  It was also eerily quiet, as if there had been an announcement that the airport would be closed today, so no one had turned up. I just missed an Air Train that would have taken me to T8 but […]

T5 was nice and quiet at 5:15am and I was pleased to find The First Wing (TFW) open, so my progress through security was easy.  Although I noted that my liquids bag got picked up again.  I asked why that might be, but no real explanation was offered. I got a warm welcome at the […]

Preparations Managed to sneak this trip in during Jan.  It was originally a June booking that was impacted by flight cancellations, so at the start of Jan I decided to take advantage of my ability to rebook my trip avoiding all of the original restrictions: as long as there is flight availability.  That allowed me […]

I’ve enjoyed my first significant trip in over 18 months: Using Verifly to manage all of the covid-related requirements worked really smoothly and airlines were happy to review the app during check in. Wearing masks all through my flights was a real chore. I experienced the new BA Club World suite for the first time […]

When I got to T7, I checked in with BA who gave me new boarding passes.  The AA boarding passes won’t work with TSA Pre-Check for some reason, even though the TSA Pre-Check isn’t much to talk about in T7.  I’ve never understood why they don’t implement it properly.  Security was a joke as usual, […]
