The flight arrived into a fairly basic boarding area, so as soon as I stepped off the aircraft I was hit by warm Fijian air — around 24°C — and it was only just after 5am.

Saturday 24 January 2026 was a very special day — at least as far as I’m concerned. For me, it simply didn’t exist.

My final flight of the day was a significant one in more ways than one. It was my first time flying with Fiji Airways, my first time crossing the International Date Line, and the first moment I would truly find myself on the other side of the world.

I managed to get about 5 hours kip in my first sleeping session. I woke at just after midnight and caught up with Vick who was struggling with a really sore throat.

My flight to Dallas was scheduled to depart from Gate 5 at 2:30pm, and by this point I was very much looking forward to completing the leg, checking into a hotel room, and finally getting some proper sleep.
