Holiday USA West Coast Road Trip in Aug 2022: Day 8 – Morning in Yachats
Best sleep since we arrived into the USA! I didn’t wake until after 5am and Vick stayed asleep until about 6am. That may be partly due to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks below our balcony.
We booked breakfast for 7:30am, which comprised a hot wrap with egg and bell peppers. On the side there were breakfast potatoes, and we also had the opportunity of Greek yoghurt, berries and granola. Not a bad start to the day!
We decided to spend the day at Cape Perpetua so that we could do some walking. We drove to the Visitors’ Centre about 8 miles south of Yachats. It was closed at the time we arrived, so we had some faffing to do in order to work out how we could pay the $5 for a pass to display in our vehicle.
We ended up starting with the Discovery Loop Trail which started at the very top of the Visitors’ Centre parking lot. That turned into the Captain Cook Trail, then we turned off onto the Gwynn Creek Trail and finally the Oregon Coast Trail. Details of these trails can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/siuslaw/recarea/?recid=42265.
In total we walked 6 miles of bendy paths, up and down. It went on a bit longer than we would have liked and to be honest other than a view of trees, there was very little else to look at! However, the forest path was spongy and covered in pine needles. Really satisfying! By the time we were back down to the visitors’ centre, the mist had engulfed the area, which was typical of Oregon from our memories of our last visit here.
