Holiday USA West Coast Road Trip in Aug 2022: Day 2 – Early Morning in Las Vegas

We slept ok in the end; we both woke up a few times but we both managed to get back to sleep with minimum fuss.  I was up at about 3am and Vick managed about an hour more than me.  The melatonin helped a little.

We walked out south down the strip to our local Starbucks which opened at 4:30am.  It was beautifully warm, with (apparently) a 90% chance of thundery showers – we didn’t see anything on the way down.  We enjoyed our drinks and then headed back to the hotel. Just as we arrived back, it started raining.  We are not sure we have ever experienced rain in Las Vegas!  It was so refreshing!

We headed into breakfast.  Breakfast at a Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) was always something to look forward to as a Hilton Diamond member.  Anything we ordered was free so we took advantage of some beautifully cooked omelettes and two eggs anyway-type dishes first thing in the morning.  Alas no more.  It’s one of the freebies that has now disappeared; Hilton using covid as an excuse to decimate the benefits offered to its loyal customers.  Now we get a $10 credit, which doesn’t give you a great deal.  Consequently, we just used it for the continental breakfast: oatmeal for Vick and toast and cereal for me.

At 6:45am we got an Uber to take us to the Cosmopolitan Hotel where we were due to pick up our Mustang convertible.  All went well and by 7:30am we were driving out of the hotel onto the strip for the 6-mile drive back to the hotel.

Our Thoughts on the Hilton Garden Inn, Las Vegas South

The HGI continues to be our go-to hotel for Las Vegas.  It’s location is perfect for us and we have easy access to an early-opening Starbucks and it’s nice and quiet away from the bustle of the city lights.  The rooms (we were in room 302 this time) are big and split into two, so when I get up early, I can relax away from Vick, without any concern about waking her up. It’s just a great hotel.
