We found a nice little restaurant overlooking the sea not far from the hotel and it was about time for some lunch and a drink.
The weather was turning at this point, so it started raining a little as we enjoyed our lunch and then headed back to get access to our suite at the AR Palace Hotel.
The suite was amazingly well equipped. Even the pillows were memory foam. We had a full kitchen with full oven, microwave, stove, large fridge/freezer and coffee machine.
We also had a terrace, although with the rain it wasn’t that attractive at that point.
We were even provided with a bottle of Asti Spumante as a “thank-you for staying with us”.
We seemed to be pretty effective in our conversing in Italian with hospitality employees. “Managing” equated to saying “bonjourno” and hoping they recognised our poor Italian and immediately started conversing in English.
It seemed to work with the majority of people we came across.
However, not everyone here was fluent in English, especially the true locals and we came across a few of those on our walk looking for a local supermarket.
We decided we wanted to get some groceries in. We wanted to do one of our classic “cheese and crackers” in evenings, but finding a supermarket which had the sorts of things we were interested in AND was open, was tricky.
But we discovered how beautiful this little gem of a place really was. There were picturesque piazzas and buildings all of the town.
Unfortunately, no one had realised that the Brits were due in town and needed to buy some fresh milk!
What we did find on our travels, however, was a lovely ice cream store!
By the time we got back to the hotel, it was 3pm and it was time for a snooze.
When we awoke, we really needed to deal with the pressing issue of a lack of fresh milk and food for dinner.
So, we jumped in the car and headed to the nearest Lidl. There seemed to be lots of Lidls around, although none local enough for us to be able to walk to. They had everything we needed.
We enjoyed the Asti Spumante and our cheese in front of the TV, and discovered that not everything in the suite was quite as impressive as the equipment provided: the sagging mattresses!
