Big day today – just had breakfast at the HGI which was great.  Rung my Mum who is doing well after her latest op, and now we are waiting for the game.

Sad to have missed the European Grand Prix.  For a change the street circuit at Valencia delivered a thrilling race rather than the normal pedestrian crawl.  However Bunsen failed to deliver again and unless he sorts himself out he will be dumped by McClaren at the end of the season.  He only came 8th after starting 9th on the grid, with a number of the guys ahead of him failing to finish.  What’s he playing at?

Well surprise, surprise – did we really expect any more than we got.  We were rubbish.  The pundits summed it up perfectly – we couldn’t hold on to the ball and we couldn’t pass.  If you can’t do those two simple things you are not going to win a football game.  I thought it was a shambles to be honest.

The defence was pretty firm although Italy had plenty of opportunities, but we played so deep and Italy had so much time on the ball in midfield without any pressing from us I was embarassed.  And I could not understand why Gerrard went down with cramp at 60/70 mins – he hadn’t done anything.  He doesn’t show much leadership either – seemed to me that Terry was doing more supporting of the team than Gerrard.

Right that’s my whinge out of the way. Vick had popped out to Starbucks prior to the game (thanks to Ali and Paul) so we could endulge whilst watching the game.

The rest of the day was an interesting discovery of Sacramento.  We drove into the old town and looked around – it’s basically a cowboy town with all the buildings, horse drawn carriages, steam engines and paddle steamers.

We went around the Railroad museum which wasn’t that exciting but only cost $9.  My Dad would have loved it (and my Grandpa!!).  We had a quick walk into the new town, but it was getting late on a Sunday afternoon when everything was closing down.

We went to a Thai restuarant which got top billing on Trip Advisor which was very good.  Minor misunderstanding with one of the starters but it was good value for money.  We finished off by watching the pilot show of Newsroom with Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer (I think the UK will get it later in the year) together with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake from Safeway.

Plan for tomorrow is to head to Fresno and prep for a trip to the Sequoia National Park the following day.  All hotels and flights now booked to satisfy the CR.

The rest of the trip will see a ‘dance’ between the two of us where Nige is trying to get a move on each morning, and I’m trying to hang around in the hotel room watching Wimbers.  Any delaying tactics I can think of will be employed. If you have any ideas please email me to my personal address. I’ve already considered tummy bugs and these will be used when Rafa is playing.

Stats for Day 21: 10 miles, 2 Starbucks coffees, 0 Hollywood celebs spotted (I’ll give up reporting on this unless someone pops up tomorrow), 0 Subway inches consumed, heavy on the calories (I protest – lunch was an apple and half a banana each!)
