The afternoon offered another new experience for us: walking on water! More precisely, crossing the Bar Harbor Path, which connects the town of Bar Harbor and Bar Island.

Low tide was expected at around 5:30pm and that gave us 90 mins either side to get across and get back before the tide hides the gravel bar again.

When we arrived just before 4pm, there was a crowd of people waiting on the Bar Harbor side of the final section of the gravel bar waiting for the water to fully recede.

Some were trying to progress across the gap by stepping on pebbles to avoid getting their feet wet.

Eventually, a sufficiently dry path became available for the majority of us to proceed.

There was a trail around the island when you reach the other side, but we decided we wanted to head back and find somewhere to eat, having (again) decided to give lunch a miss.

It was a lot warmer in Bar Harbor compared to yesterday. The chilly breeze had disappeared, so after a fair bit of walking, we were both overheating wearing our puffer jackets.

It was time for an early dinner and we had picked out a Mexican inspired restaurant called Salva Verde. When we reached it we found it was closed. We even tried ringing the number advertised on their website and the number was unobtainable. Not a great customer experience!

We tried another place called Havana, which looked very attractive from the outside and they managed to find a high table in the window/bar for us.

The owner had previously welcomed President Obama and Michelle according to a framed photo on the wall next to our table.

So I think that means we sat next to the President for dinner!

Our meal started with some bread and dips.

For starter, Vick had a salad with blackberries, which was really good (and very healthy to pot).

I had a steak and patatas fritte dish which was cooked perfectly. I was attracted by the patatas and it reminded me of a meal we enjoyed in Seville with the Keevils.

For main, we both had a pollo dish which came with rice and mango. Really good.

Overall, an excellent meal at a very good restaurant. We were pleased that Salsa Verde was closed.

It was a good 20-30 min walk back to the hotel, and on the way, we may have stopped off at Walgreens for some Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake.
