Holiday to New England in Oct 2023: Day 13 – Cape Cod to Boston

On our way home to see the pussie-cats! Our final car journey starts from Cape Cod and takes us back to Boston.

We have an evening that revolves around our final visit to The Cheesecake Factory and we will fit in some sightseeing in the gaps.

We both slept pretty well overnight. Both up around 5am and we headed out to do our normal Starbucks run at around 6am.

We are sure the Starbucks team must have started recognising us by now, but they haven’t said anything.

Back to the hotel for a shower and breakfast.

We left the hotel at around 9am – we didn’t want to leave too early. It wasn’t very far to Boston and we didn’t want to be hanging around for our room to be ready.

Initial target was to reach Plymouth, so that we could see the Mayflower and the Plymouth Rock, the landing for the Pilgrims on their way from England to the New World.

The drive was easy and we arrived in no time at all. We found somewhere to park on the front and wandered around the Mayflower site.

It was $17 per person to walk around the Mayflower, which we thought was a bit steep, so we stuck to taking photos from afar.

We also wander along to take a photo of the Plymouth Rock, which wasn’t desparately inspiring, but it was significant in the history of the USA, so worth a quick peek!

From there we popped into a local Starbucks and then set our sights on Boston.

The drive was another painless one, but unsurprisingly, it got quite busy as we got closer to the city.

I dropped the Vickster outside the hotel and then made my way back to the Hertz office at Park Plaza. The guy in the office was busy, so I was happy to receive an email receipt, so I dropped the car off and headed over to the hotel.

We checked into room 518, which was a king deluxe. I had a long exchange with the front desk via the app, clarifying the room upgrade policy.

We walked out to Boston Common and started the Freedom Trail. We weren’t the only ones! There seemed to be lots wanting to follow the red brick trail around the city! Separate post on that next.

As we walked, we warmed up in the warm sunshine. It was still a little chilly, but the sun won over the chill in the afternoon.

By the time we had completed the 2.5m walk, we were both fairly knackered, so we ordered an Uber to take us back to the hotel.

A snooze ensued (for some of us anyway).

Then came the highlight of the day: another visit to The Cheesecake Factory!

We walked to the closest one to the hotel, which was a good 25 mins away.

We had read various stories about the restaurant’s ability to seat people where they wanted to in a reasonable amount of time. We asked for a booth and were advised it would be 20 mins.

We waited around and we were called just after 20 mins. We were shown to a normal table in the bar area, so obviously we highlighted that we had asked for a booth. « That would take a bit longer » came the reply.

I highlighted that we could see multiple booths available and the response was « we only have 5 waiting staff and we have some off unwell ». No idea why that would impact which tables could be used.

Anyway, 3 mins later, we were shown to one of the booths we pointed out. Annoying, but we got there in the end. Some staff just need a bit of training…

Pina coladas were ordered and thoroughly enjoyed. Vick went for chicken tacitos as a starter and I went for the stuffed mushrooms.

We shared main courses: Vick went for the Thai lime cocunut chicken and I ordered the steak tacos. Both were gorgeous.

We ordered lemon raspberry cheesecake and a mango lime cheesecake, which we took back to the hotel.

We needed the walk back after eating too much at TCF. Somehow we managed to squeeze in our cheesecakes at the hotel whilst watching a bit of SVU on TV.
