Holiday to New England in Oct 2023: Day 12 – Cape Cod

Another relaxing day in Cape Cod was on the cards. After the rain and gales yesterday, we were looking forward to enjoying some sunshine today. It wasn’t very warm, but it was lovely in the sun.

For a change I slept pretty well last night; Vick not so well. We had gales overnight which were noisy and (apparently) we had noisy guests wandering around the corridors as well!

At 5:30am we drove out to Starbucks to pick up our drinks. We decided to head back to the hotel to get ready for our respective calls at 7am.

After our respective calls were held, we headed down to a very busy Hampton Inn breakfast. It was the standard fare, but we still managed to find some oatmeal, cereal and we finished breakfast off with some bacon and potatoes.

In the morning, we chose to drive out to the Shining Sea Bikeway We considered hiring bikes, but it was a tad chilly and we decided we would enjoy walking just as much.

On the way our hire car started playing up a bit. First off we got a warning « Audi Pre Sense » – a fairly meaningless message, unless you know Audis inside out.

Then we got a TPMS warning, suggesting one of the tyres had low pressure, or worse, perhaps had a puncture.

We tried to put that on one side as we walked down to Falmouth Beach, which was really pleasant.

There were fancy houses on one side and small rivers/large ponds on the other.

We ended up on a private beach which wasn’t well sign-posted at all.

We headed back to the car with a strategy to check out the tyre pressure warning. Initially we did a visual check of the tyres – all looked ok.

Then we drove back to the hotel and stopped off at an air pressure station – all of the tyre pressures were set to 33 (even though the recommendation was 36).

We pumped them up to 36 and then reset the TPMS system. Driving back towards the hotel, we saw no recurrence of the problem.

Next stop was a lunch place called Bagel Haven. Vick ordered a gluten-free bagel with cream cheese and I ordered a BLT on sour dough, slightly toasted.

We enjoyed those in the car, whilst they remained warm. Gorgeous.

Then it was back to the hotel for a snooze!

After the F1 Grand Prix, it was time to head out for a Thai dinner! We had missed out on eating Thai so far, so it was time to right that wrong.

Vick had chosen Bangkok Cuisine which was a few miles up the road.

As a starter, we enjoyed a really nice chicken satay. Just right for us to share. It was clearly an indication of further good things to come.

For main course, we shared a chicken cashew dish and a chick penang curry.

Both were excellent – full of fresh, crunchy vegetables.

We were well pleased with Vick’s selection of restaurant.

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped off at the local CVS, which we had learned had a good stock of B&J’s Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream.

We enjoyed that watching Edge of Darkness on the TV. An enjoyable evening of food!

On the way home tomorrow. Final drive to Boston and final visit to The Cheesecake Factory on this holiday.
