It was the start of a weekend of sport in New England! Today we had the Liverpool derby, followed by the F1 Sprint race. Around that we planned to fit in some attractions and some good food.
For a change, we had a half-decent night’s sleep. I wasn’t up until after 5am. Vick slept a little longer.
We started the day with our normal visit to Starbucks, which was about 4 min up the road.
We headed back and caught the Liverpool v Everton game on USA. Luckily the Pool won 2-0.
I can’t imagine what the day would have been like if we hadn’t won, especially against 10 men. Temporarily at the top of the league!
We headed out to Hyannis for brunch to a place called The Daily Paper, which served up the best breakfast (according to TripAdvisor). It was certainly good.
Vick ordered a special omelette with ham, caramelised onion, tomato, Swiss cheese and mushroom. She loved it.
I had a Trio Combo: 3 eggs, 3 sausage and 3 bacon. Both meals came with home fries and toast. Wow!
By this point, it was throwing it down. We knew the weather wasn’t going to be great today.
We walked up Main Street to the JFK museum, which at $14 per person was expensive. It was quite interesting – the Kennedy family made their home on Cape Cod.
From there we drove down Main Street to find the International Inn, also known as the Cuddle and Bubble. Also known as the Soak and Poke to Vicky and Nicky. They stayed there 26 years ago on a singles holiday. The sign has changed and its now called the Hyannis Plaza. I think the Cuddle and Bubble sounds way better!
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped off at Starbucks for a caffeine topup.
Back to the hotel for F1 Sprint qualifying, then the F1 Sprint race, where Max put his Red Bull on pole position.
In the late afternoon, we decided to visit Olive Garden, which is a chain we frequented a few times may years ago. It’s relatively cheap and cheerful, with large portions.
We asked for a booth, which initially they had none available, but after a 5 min wait, one was made available. When we were seated, we found an empty section full of booths, which they clearly didn’t want to open up. We got what we wanted anyway!
We started off with a salad and endless bread sticks, which were very tasty.
Pasta was ordered as a main course. Vick had a build-your-own gluten-free pasta. She thought that was nice, but a little dull.
I ordered something they called Tour of Italy, which comprised a Fettuccini Alfredeo, a Chicken Parmigiana and a Lasagna Classico.
The alfredo was tremendous, the parmigiana was good and the lasagne was a bit dull. Nice overall, but way too much food as normal.
We then had a battle to use the restaurant’s self-serve bill payment service.
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped off at Target, Walgreens and CVS to pick up some B&J’s Strawberry Cheesecake. We ate that whilst I watched the F1 Sprint race. That’s a great way to finish off a day!
There was a gale warning in the evening, so we hunkered down to see it out. After all of the torrential rain today, we did well in watching so much sport on TV!
