Holiday to Hawaii in Aug 2013: Day 11 – Maui
Great start to the day! Up early; off to Starbucks for breakfast and then we went snorkeling with a guide who taught us about some fancy fish in the sea and provided all the gear etc.
It was amazing to see Butterfly, Wrasse, Trigger, Parrot and Goat fish. I even saw a Sting Ray which the guide didn’t see. We swam with turtles. Wowser. So that was the morning.
Vick’s asleep now, but later this afternoon we will be off to our Luau in Lahaina
And Liverpool are top of the league after beating Man U! Top stuff.
We had to drive 30 miles – about 45 mins to get to Lahaina for the Luau, which is apparently the best one on the island. We were greeted with Hawaiian Lei garlands and seated at a traditional floor table sitting on cushions. We had a couple who had just got married from Ottawa, Canada – Dave and Amy; a couple from Phoenix – Chris and Erica; and an Asian couple who I guess felt a bit left out.
I don’t think they spoke very good English, but we exchanged taking photos of each other since they sat opposite us. The Asian guy ate with his mouth open and had three platefuls of food, so was never going to make it on to our best friends list!
We watched them dig up a roast pig – they had buried it in sand with it cooking over hot coals, covered in vine leaves. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about, but there was an open house at the bar, which wasn’t that helpful since I had to drive.
The entertainment was made up on individual dancers and a narrator telling us the story of Hawaii. Overall we enjoyed having the experience but we wouldn’t say it was worth the money.
The drive home was fine and it wasn’t long before Mrs B’s eyelids closed on another day.
