Holiday to Canada in Aug 2024: Day 8 – Quebec City to Montreal
The day started beautifully, with a walk down to the Starbucks in the Old Town.
Located in the Fairmont hotel, it was a fabulous setting. We sat outside in the sunshine, enjoying the cool breeze.
Heading back to the hotel, we went straight into breakfast in the Exec Lounge, and my jaw dropped when I saw there was bread and butter pudding on the menu.
Time stood still, as I devoured a large plate of pudding as course number 1 for breakfast.
Course 2 comprised another favourite: muffins, butter, and a berry jam.
Vick was delighted to be able to make her own oatmeal, followed up by some Greek yoghurt.
Back to our room to pack up and head to the car park. We said goodbye to our room with amazing views.
On the road and we decided to take the alternative road back to Montreal, on the north side of the river.
It was slightly longer but had better Starbucks coverage.
So, the first stop was a Starbucks at Trois Rivieres. We carried on for another 20 mins to a supercharger at Louiseville and enjoyed our coffees whilst we waited.
Forgot to mention: roadkill on way to Quebec.
The last leg into Montreal took a tad under 90 mins. Entering any big city tends to be a tad on the slow side. We benefited by it being the weekend.
We drove into the car park and headed up to check in.
Again, we were lucky. Our room was available. This time, we had room 1200.
We walked out to Ben & Jerry’s and found some African music blaring out at full blast. So loud, we couldn’t hear what the woman was saying.
I asked her to drop the volume, which she did reluctantly.
We then had a discussion over whether they had normal Strawberry Cheesecake available (rather than the non-dairy version).
The woman took me to non-dairy version, which I ended up taking 3 scoops of, but Vick noticed that they actually had the normal ice cream available as well.
We gave her the benefit of the doubt and put that down to language issues.
It didn’t affect our enjoyment of our ice cream, which we assigned the privilege of being our lunch.
The weather had turned for the worse. It started spitting before we were able to get back to the hotel.
Vick had booked us into a Mexican restaurant (Escondita) at 6:30pm. A bit later than normal to give her enough time to watch the tennis.
Whilst I had a snooze, the Vickster watched the US Open final. The things I do for her whilst on holiday!
The tennis was just about over by the time we left for dinner.
It was chucking it down on our walk, so we turned up soaking by the time we arrived at Escondita.
Unfortunately, the restaurant was noisy. Made worse by the fact that there was a hen do with about 20 cackling girls, sat close to our table.
Putting aside the fact that we couldn’t hear each other, the food was exceptional.
We started off with a Mango salad, which was really fresh, and a guacamole with paprika chips.
For main course, which came not long after the starters, we ordered a quesadilla alongside the Mr Mole tacos.
We even left room for pudding: two key lime deserts, which were really tangy. Absolutely fab.
We braved the (slightly lighter) rain as we walked back to the hotel.
