Holiday to Canada in Aug 2024: Day 2 – Afternoon in Toronto

After a short break in the hotel for showers, we grabbed an Uber up to Yorkdale Shopping Mall, about 10km north of the city.

It took about 45 mins to get there in fairly heavy traffic but only cost us $24. That’s not much for an Uber driver to live on once you take into account vehicle maintenance, etc.

We had to wait 15 mins for a table outside, which we regretted almost immediately due to the windy, which was making us feel pretty chilled.

However, that didn’t stop us from enjoying a pint colada, chocolate bread, and tacitas as a starter.

For the main course, Vick went for her favourite salad, and I had the spicy cashew chicken.

Our favourite cheesecakes were ordered for takeout, to be enjoyed after the final activity of the day.

We grabbed another Uber back to the hotel, where we crammed in a 30-min snooze before stumbling out to the CN Tower.

It had cooled down quite a lot by the time we reached the tower for a 7pm entry, but it was still windy. It’s good to know the tower could withstand winds of up to 250 mph.

The queuing started outside the main entrance, and we were finally on the main observation deck about 20 mins later.

We also had tickets for The Top, which is another elevator up another 30+ floors to a very small platform with poor views around Toronto.

The windows were dirty, scratched, and gave photographers little hope of a decent shot. We didn’t stay too long up there. Absolutely not worth the extra $12.50.

Vick was struggling by this point, so I whizzed around, taking a few photos as we approached sunset, and then we headed back.

One too many activities crammed into a busy day when we have jetlag. But it had still been a great day.

Cheesecake was partly enjoyed in our hotel room, but there was something not quite right about it. Had they changed the recipe? Or was it just because there was no raspberry sauce provided? Either way, not quite the finish to the day that we had in mind. Shame.

Off to bed just after 9pm.
