Woke early again and I ended up using my laptop in the bathroom from about 5am whilst I was waiting for Vick to wake.  Sad really that I can’t go back to sleep!

The whole drive was under an overcast sky, which we are becoming used to.  Obviously the wrong time of the year!

We grabbed our usual coffee at a shop in Cambria, which was a very pleasant place to stay – very clean and colourful shops in the main street.

We stopped in San Luis Obispo which was the largest town we have come across for a while.  We found a great diy stir fry cafe where we had lunch with a free open air guitarist to keep us happy.

Pick your own ingredients, make up your own sauce and 6 mins later it’s specially stir-fried with noodles and/or rice.

We arrived in Lompoc fairly early and by this time we were both pretty knackered.  Lompoc is a pretty big place with one main drag with all the restaurants and loads of shopping complexes all linked together.

We picked the Best Western rather than the local version of a Hilton becuase our ‘oracle’ for travel, tripadvisor.com, had lots of reviews slating the Hilton/Hampton and lots of reviews saying that the Best Western was really good.

They were right – very friendly and helpful welcome, nice room, pristinely clean, free laundry with brand new machines, nice pool.

Anyway we chilled out in the late afternoon and then found a nice back street Mexican close by for dinner.

The evening was spent watching The Negotiator from the hotel’s DVD library and to bed by about 10:30pm.
