It was seriously cold at JFK when I left T7 and headed to the Sky Train. It was also eerily quiet, as if there had been an announcement that the airport would be closed today, so no one had turned up.
I just missed an Air Train that would have taken me to T8 but another was along 3 mins later. T8 was also very quiet and I went to AA Priority check-in to get AA boarding passes so that I had TSA Pre written on them. However, based on the limited number of people in the airport, there was very little benefit!
Anyway, got through and checked into the Flagship Lounge. The lounge was also empty, so no problem in getting a seat!
Had a wander around the airport and started feeling tired. Picked up a Starbucks and headed back to the lounge to chill. Managed to find a working power outlet so that I could charge up my phone and laptop ahead of the next long flight to LAX.
The lounge did get a little busier later on, but nowhere near the normal level of rowdiness.
I headed down to Gate 2 about 50 mins before the flight was due to depart. The incoming flight was about 20 mins late, but the AA staff did pretty well to turn the aircraft around. In the end we pushed back only 10 mins later than scheduled.
I couldn’t get my normal seat (06F) or another window seat, so I selected 06C so that I was at the front of the business class cabin. Next to me was a lady that had just left her 22-year-old daughter in NYC – so she had left home from LA and was setting up in NYC, working for a marketing firm. Always nice to have a chat with my flight neighbour!
I may have had a few glasses of champagne. Lunch was pretty decent. Started off with a large tasty salad, followed by a BBQ beef thing. Got an ice sundae for afters and then a warm-ish cookie later on in the flight.
I watched Up in the Air with George Clooney and Vera Whatsaface, which is just my type of film (!) and I then tried to get some rest. It was way too hot in the cabin though.
We arrived into Gate 46C much earlier than expected, so had some extra time ahead of my next flight to SFO. Off to find the AA Flagship Lounge!
