I ordered an Uber at 5:30pm – I always get to the point of thinking I may as well get on my way. Why wait any longer? Glad I did. The Uber was fine and got me to the airport at around 6pm.
I headed to AA check in since I couldn’t check in online earlier. I must have spent 20 mins at check in going through all of the paperwork for the UK. I hadn’t realised that they would check that here. I showed my Verifly green tick and that helped, but I still needed to show my vaccination certificate and my PLF. Eventually all good. I then asked about a potential switch to the earlier flight and eventually got the nod at no cost. I also managed to get my original seat (1F), so I should now have time for a Starbucks when I get into LAX.
Through TSA Pre-Check security without any hitches and into the Sakura Admiral’s Club, which appears to now be staffed by AA. I am sure in the past it’s been more aligned to JAL. They have refurbed the lounge but gone a bit overboard with the plastic dividing screens! Another 22,000 steps done today, so I have been trying to walk off some of the extra calories consumed.
My flight left from Gate C2, which is a 10 min walk from the lounge – there were a lot of passengers waiting in a holding area, but very little activity from a boarding perspective. We started boarding about 10 mins later, and I was into my normal seat (1F) in just a few moments.

We pushed back on time and I ignored all invitations to eat, drink or be merry. My aim was to sleep as best I could and for the first two hours, I think I did pretty well – the time seemed to shoot by. It was pretty cold on the aircraft, so I wrapped up with the miserably think blanket they left on my seat. I’m sure we used to get thicker things that this in the past.

Got some nice photos on final approach. Arrived into Gate 42A (again) and headed straight over to the AA lounge to drop my bag and then I was off walking to my special place…
