On check in, the desk asked to see my Safe Travels ticks. They assigned me room 1456 which was a bog-standard city view room. No upgrade. I couldn’t be bothered pushing – I really wanted to crash at this point.
After a quick shower, I decided to head out and revisit a few haunts. I started by walking through a new fancy shopping mall on to the main road through Waikiki. From there I walked past The Cheesecake Factory (TCF), then over to the shoreline and finally up to the Hilton Hawaiian Village (HHV).
I wandered around HHV for a bit and took in the view of the Rainbow Tower. Based on the number of tourists, it didn’t seem like anything had changed in terms of numbers. The vast majority of people were wearing masks.
On my walk around, I noticed that one or two shops and restaurants were no longer there including the jewellery stall near TCF. However, there weren’t too many signs of businesses going under. I found myself back at TCF and was pulled in by a magnetic force to order a slice of my favourite cheesecake.
I took it back to my room to scoff it in silence, before getting some shuteye.
