Tier Point Run to Grand Cayman in Dec 2013: Day 1 – Manchester (MAN) to London Heathow (LHR)
The day has arrived – I’ve finished off my last bits of work before the weekend including attendance at the Service Review session this morning where one of my changes had caused a serious delay to financial reporting processing at a leading bank (I’m not proud of this by the way).
Vick offered to drive me to the airport which was good of her since she ended up starting work later than she wanted to, but we immediately hit a traffic jam on the M62!
I managed to talk her through the traffic (sorry luv!), and we were soon speeding (relatively speaking) down the M6 and on to the M56 towards the airport.
Having said my farewell to my beloved, I managed to cross the road on my own and get into the airport without tripping up over something.
Security was empty, although I was pulled over for a random check (wonder how many times that will happen on my trip), and found my way into the lounge which was empty.
Took a few snaps in the lounge for this blog and I settled in for an hour before my flight to Heathrow. Minimal selection of treats in the lounge, but I’ll try to be good for J and Sharon and not eat too much on this trip.
Yesterday at my weigh-in I had put on almost a kilo in two weeks and I had to work extra hard in our PT session.
Checked in to my AA flights to Grand Cayman, but couldn’t find a way to print out my boarding cards.
I’m not happy just relying on mobile boarding passes, especially with my phone and the battery not lasting that long.
First shock was that there was a call for a Mr Billington to please go to the Info Desk. I wonder whether she meant me?
Oh no I thought – flight cancelled due to fog at Heathrow!
As it happened, it was for me – the nice young lady did apologise for messing up my name, and secondly she wanted to check my passport since she thought I was going to Dubai! When she realised it was actually Dublin she apologised again.
However this first interaction with the BA staff did lead her to offer to print off my boarding cards for the AA flight segments. So well done BA.
