I’d already had a large glass of champers in the First lounge, and then indulged again with a pre-flight drink.
Ignored the food, and got my head down straight away. Can’t say I found the “bed” terribly comfortable to be honest, but after about 3 hours I had this bad headache and couldn’t sleep any more.
What I must say is that we left about 50 mins late due to a technical issue, not that it was acknowledged by any of the crew, but I saw the BA Engineering van turn up and park at the front of the plane and a bloke get out and walk under the aircraft.
30 mins later he emerged and gave the thumbs up to the cockpit and we were then off. I do wish that us pax were kept in the loop as to what’s going on.
As a result of not drinking enough water during the day, and the champers I’d had, I was really feeling dickie.
And we hit some serious turbulence which probably lasted about an hour which didn’t help either. I thought I might end up looking at the inside of a sick bag the way I was feeling, but after a couple of Anadin and a lot of water, I slowly came back to normality.
It was still dark when we arrived at London City airport – flickers of light were starting to emerge on the horizon and I reflected on my first experience of CWLCY – absolutely tremendous.
Service was excellent both ways; entertainment via tablet on the outward was good; and quiet attentive service on the way back was equally good.
Even though we had left JFK almost an hour late, we arrived just about on time. On to a bus for a short ride to passport control and in to our own special queue to get through that, and I was then back into the Security line and into the Departures lounge waiting for my trip to AMS.
