The flight to Cancun left from gate D32 which was only just up the terminal a little way, so minimal exercise in that walk.

I was half hoping for the same crew that I had on my last CUN trip a few days ago. However I got a different crew this time.

The senior FA was a real laugh – joking with all the passengers. He wasn’t that good at reading out the official AA statements over the PA though! So for example he announced that we could use our phones during taxiing whilst still in the air.

Now that’s the first time I have heard that, and although technically what he said was correct, some pax would simply take it as being relevant as soon as it is said – they don’t always listen to the whole statement.

And generally he wasn’t very clear in his communication which goes against his natural ability to communicate one 2 one with individuals.

Anyway, the flight was packed, so I couldn’t get close to the window to take any photos. But the flight was smooth and well serviced.

We got our small biscuit and offered a drink. Well when I asked for a cup of tea, of course Mr Funny went to town on that one.

The flight arrived about on time, but a good 10 mins later than the same flight a few days ago, so I thought I should make a dash for customs etc to ensure there was no chance of me being late.

I told Mr Funny FA what I was up to, and he looked forward to seeing me back on the flight in an hour’s time.

Typical that the flight I decide I should run (well jog), was the one where the plane was assigned the gate (Gate C23) the furthest possible distance away from Passport Control, so it took a good 5/10 mins jogging to reach passport control.

This time at least they were ready and I was seen straight away. Lots of intriguing questions but no problems.

When I got to Customs I pressed the red button (it’s like the lottery you know), and I was selected at random out of the one person that was at Customs (I.e. me) to have a thorough check through my bags. Again thought this might hold me up but it only took another 5 mins.

Straight through into departures and into the queue for Security, which was a lot longer this time. So that took me 15 mins to navigate through – no fast track.

And by the time I semi-rushed back to the furthest gate ever assigned to any aircraft anywhere, they were just calling for boarding.

I’m making more out of this than I need to – I could have made it just by walking, but I didn’t want to risk it. Took a few photos of the airport as I went through to the gate.

Our baby for the trip to/from Cancun.
