My flight to Dallas was due to leave from Gate 5 at 2:30pm and I was really looking forward to completing this leg, checking into a hotel room and sleeping – properly.

The inbound flight was running late, which had a knock on impact on my flight to Dallas, delaying it by about 10 mins.

That wouldn’t cause me any challenges, so I was pretty chilled about it. AA did really well in turning the aircraft around and getting the aircraft back in the air.

On into seat 01B and I ordered a cranberry juice as a pre-flight drink. There’s something refreshing about cranberry juice. I appreciate that it’s artificially sweetened but the fruit is good for your body!

After taking off, I was offered a bowl of warm nuts and another cranberry juice. I’m all in on cranberries now!

For dinner I ordered a very tasty linguine pasta dish. It was hot, rich and yummy.

That came with a basic salad and an odd amuse bouche. Neither of which rated very highly.

For dessert, I was offered a small tub of Haagen Daaz strawberry ice cream, which was very nice indeed. It wasn’t Ben & Jerry’s, but beggars can’t be choosers!

I dozed for the rest of the flight. Being in an aisle seat, I didn’t have control of a window blind, so there was very little I could take photos of!

I noted that, ignoring my positioning flights, this was the first flight that didn’t have a lie-flat bed.

After a relatively smooth landing and a very long taxi, we arrived into Gate A36 at Terminal A.

Deplaning started pretty quickly and it didn’t take long for me to walk through the terminal and out onto the kerbside, where I ordered an Uber to take me to my hotel in Irving.

In many respects, I messed up my hotel bookings for here. I chose the cheapest Hilton, rather than taking into consideration the convenience of getting to the hotel.

Whilst I was still on the aircraft, I thought about visiting a Cheesecake Factory near to DFW. I could have justified having another meal, but in the end I decided an Uber to the hotel and a long sleep was the order of the day.

The Uber driver wanted to tell me the history of Texas in the space of our 20 min drive. I really wanted to be left to chill in the back of his massive truck! You’ve got to love them! Big and brash!

I struggled to check in at the Hampton Inn Dallas/Irving-Las Colinas.  I could hardly understand the guy manning the front desk. He clearly didn’t enjoy his job and he wasn’t too bothered about making it obvious.

The room was a classic old-style Hampton Inn. Very dated, but I did enjoy getting into bed!
