It was great to see James at home that morning. He’d stayed over the night before on his way to an all-day business meeting in Chipping Norton.
When I explained what I’d been getting up to in my so-called retirement, he seemed to think I was slightly mad as well.
I hadn’t had the best night’s sleep — far from it — but it had been lovely spending time with the Vickster, especially knowing that I was about to be away from her for almost three weeks.
We set off at around 10am, heading first to the Oxford Supercharger for an urgent top-up and a much-needed Starbucks. From there, it was on towards Heathrow.
The M25 was grim. Traffic was heavy, the weather was poor, and driving wasn’t especially enjoyable. I drove down, with Vick taking on the return leg back home.
We parked in Terminal 5 Long Stay and caught the shuttle bus over to the terminal. Outside The First Wing (TFW), we stopped for a selfie and shared a long hug.
We both knew we were going to miss each other hugely. That said, the Vickster was going to be kept busy while I was away.
I hoped that the regular video calls we had planned over the coming three weeks would help reassure her that all was well.
I then headed into TFW, and just like that, our three weeks apart officially began.
Next up: My flight from London Heathrow (LHR) to Los Angeles (LAX) on Day 4 of my Round The World trip of a lifetime.
