I was first off the aircraft, heading straight up the airbridge from door 2L. Gate 409 turned out to be very conveniently located for border control, which was a welcome bonus at the end of a long day.
The automated passport gates worked flawlessly, and I even timed it well enough to catch a shuttle bus straight back to T4 Long Stay Parking. The driver looked as though he’d been waiting just for me.
Naturally, things couldn’t be entirely seamless. When I reached the car park exit, the ANPR system failed to recognise my booking, leaving me stuck at the barrier while I called through to the help desk. After a short wait, they eventually let me out without requiring payment a second time.
By then, the weather had turned decidedly foul, making the drive home along the M4 less than pleasant. Still, I made it back without incident.
The Vickster was pleased to see me, and by that point I was very much looking forward to a proper night’s sleep.
Next up: A gallery of photos from Day 3 of my Round The World trip of a lifetime.
