From Gate B37, I was first off, having photographed door 2L being opened at 13:59:47. I thought that may have been important for my UK261 compensation claim.
I just missed a train heading to Arrivals, but the next one wasn’t too far behind.
There’s always the risk of it being full, but on this occasion it was almost empty.
Not too many passengers off BA282 had even managed to make it to the train by the time it headed on its way to Arrivals.
Up the escalator and into the Arrivals process. Good to see that it wasn’t very busy at all.
I headed through the automated passport control kiosk and that was fine, as it always is nowadays.
On the way through baggage reclaim and customs, I started sending WhatsApp messages to Vick to build up the tension.
Vick was waiting at Arrivals and was slightly eager to see me!
I hadn’t realised, but Vick was already ignoring her mobile by this point. She was concerned about looking at her phone and missing me appear from Arrivals!
We had a huge hug after I finally appeared. It was so good to see the Vickster again.
It had been an amazing Phase 1 of my RTW trip, but this was the best bit. That might be an excuse to do this all again at some point in the future!
From there, we caught the bus back to Long Stay Parking and got on the road. But we did have a scare before we got going.
Because Vick had turned up so early, she had stayed longer than 2 hours. Up to 2 hours the cost was £9.50 (ish). Beyond 2 hours, we had to pay the full day rate of £45.
What a rip-off. A complaint was submitted as soon as I got home!
The drive home was fairly uneventful, but it was great to get home to enjoy some time with the Vickster and the cats.
Next up: A gallery of photos from Day 23 of my Round The World trip of a lifetime.
