I was woken abruptly by my phone alarm, which went off at 6am. I hadn’t expected to be asleep at that point — I’m normally up well before my alarm even thinks about sounding.
I caught the bus back to the airport, which cost me £5 but at least gave me the chance to grab a Starbucks and scope out the Qatar Airways check-in situation.
No such luck on checking in early. The only Qatar flight departing that day was mine in the afternoon, and check-in wasn’t due to open until midday.
With that option exhausted, I wandered back to the hotel on foot. A light covering of snow had fallen overnight and it was noticeably colder, but it still made for an invigorating walk.
Once back at the hotel, I caught up with the Vickster and found her watching the tennis with Mango firmly installed on her lap. They both looked perfectly content.
I suspected this would become a familiar morning arrangement during my calls home.
Breakfast followed, and it turned out to be an impressive spread — particularly given that this was a relatively inexpensive hotel. On this occasion, though, I showed some restraint and limited myself to toast.
After properly waking up and getting myself organised, I set off on foot once more, heading back to the airport at around 11am. I wanted plenty of time at Qatar check-in, just in case there were any issues lurking in my booking.
Next up: My flight from Oslo (OSL) to Doha (DOH) on Day 2 of my Round The World trip of a lifetime.
