We deplaned from door 1L and it wasn’t too long before I was walking into the huge baggage reclaim area and access to immigration.
On entering Indonesia, well Bali specifically, there are three things you need to do to avoid getting held up in the arrivals process:
1. Get a Visa ahead of time – they call this an eVisa. You can queue up for a Visa on Arrival (VoA) but that can take time, and it looked a big queue on this occasion.
2. Fill in your Customs Declaration online. This is what they call an Arrivals Card. Be careful not to get dragged into rogue websites which want to charge you for what is a free service
3. Pay your Bali Tourist Levy online.
I already had my D1 multi visit tourist visa. I had remembered to fill in my Arrivals Card whilst I was in the lounge earlier today.
I only remembered that I needed to pay the Bali levy as we were taxiing to the gate! Luckily I was able to quickly pay that before we reached the gate.
When you have been through the process once and you know what to do, where to go and who to show what to, its actually quite funny watching everyone else stumble over the same things I did the first time!
It’s a bit sadistic I guess, but I do get some pleasure in bypassing the hesitant tourists who are doing this for the first time.
My eVisa got me through the automated passport reader and I slipped into the shortest queue for the Arrivals Card check.
To be honest I’m not sure where I would be caught if I hadn’t paid my Bali Tourist Levy. Perhaps they don’t enforce it?
I was heading out of the airport in no time at all, and walking down the road to the hotel.
It was 30 degrees c and sunny, which meant it felt very hot. By the time I reached my hotel, I was sweating cobs. The receptionist offered some tissues so I could mop my brow!
In to room 2027 which was an upgrade, but it wasnt a suite. However, it overlooked the pool, which was nice.
I caught up with Vick, had a shower and headed down to the poolside tables to enjoy my free cocktails, followed by a repeat of my lovely dinner here last week.
Nasi goreng to start with, followed by the chicken satay, accompanied by two Coronas. A great way to finish off the day.
Next up: A gallery of photos from Day 17 of my Round The World trip of a lifetime.
