The morning started off early (as normal) with a visit to Starbucks across the road.

The baristas at the store now recognised us and they remembered Vick’s slightly quirky order: a vente latte with two and a half shots.

I was surprised they hadn’t made the drinks and had them waiting for us! Very poor service.

We started off the day sat in the store and planned what we would do.

Today was our last full day in DC before we hit the road and headed down to Charlottesville.

Our plan involved taking the train out to Rock Creek Park, located north west of central DC.

On the way, we would stop off at another Starbucks for breakfast.

We walked the short distance to Metro Center, and Vick fought with the mobile ticket reader.

Once she was through, we grabbed a Red Line train heading to Shady Grove, which is a great name for a train station.

We got off at Van Ness UDC, where we found Starbucks.

It wasn’t a big store and only had limited seating, but we managed to get two window seats and we basked in the warmth of the sun.

We were looking forward to much warmer weather today. From the low of -3 deg c yesterday, we were expecting highs of 16 deg c today.

We walked along the Soapstone Valley Trail heading into Rock Creek Park, which criss-crossed a stream via stepping stones.

It was a beautiful setting, with the colours of the autumn and leaves falling from the trees.

There was no large sign welcoming us into Rock Creek Park, perhaps one of the downsides of entering the park by foot.

Once inside the park, we walked along Beach Drive to Boulder Bridge.

We decided to be sensible about Vick’s heel, so we decided to head back to Cleveland Park Red Line station to catch the train back to DC.

We enjoyed the walk, which would help work off another (likely) visit to The Cheesecake Factory later on in the day.
