Story: Holiday Washington DC in Nov 2025

We turned the light off at around 7:30pm last night. Vick has conked out laying on the bed, and I was feeling fairly tired too, having had to focus hard to scoffing down my lemon raspberry cheesecake whilst watching an old episode of Law & Order SVU.
I woke not much before 2am, which I was pretty pleased about. Vick managed to stay in bed until after 3am, so it was a typical first morning in the US dealing with the jet lag.
It had become fairly clear that we couldn’t have chosen a better location for our hotel: The Cheesecake Factory was just across the road; on the same block we had Starbucks, and the store which opened the earliest across Washington DC!
We couldn’t hope for much more than that!
In walking across to Starbucks we encountered one wandering woman who wasn’t threatening, but it reminded us how careful we needed to be, especially at that early hour in the day.
It was pretty chilly as well. Considering it was 20 deg c yesterday, it had plummeted to 6 deg c in the morning and by the end of the day it was due to be below freezing!
Starbucks was noisy but it was warm and we enjoyed our coffees.
We decided to walk down to Pennsylvania Ave to pop in to see the President, but all of the east side had been closed off.
So we ended up walking to the south side, across the bottom and up the west side.
From there we walked along Pennsylvania Ave to see the White House (WH) and we exchanged pleasantries with the Secret Service and the Police taking care of security around the WH.
We headed back to the hotel and after careful consideration we decided we would walk up to Founding Farmers (about a mile away), which opened at 7am for a slap-up breakfast.
Our visit to the Monument was scheduled for 10am, so that would be our main focus for our morning’s activities.
The walk up to Founding Farmers brought back some memories, seeing places that we remembered the last time we were here.
The restaurant looked the same, although there was no queue this morning, with it being 7am on a Mon morning in November.
I think the last time we enjoyed breakfast here it was the weekend, and it was packed!
The menu didn’t seem as extensive to me, but we were happy with our choices.
