Holiday USA West Coast Road Trip in Aug 2022: Day 13 – Bakersfield to Las Vegas

Bakersfield to Barstow

The first segment of our trip back to Las Vegas was a 2-hour stint on the road to Barstow along the CA-58E and a few miles along the I15.  It was already warm on our departure from Bakersfield and it was only going to get hotter!

The journey was fine; fairly busy and with it only being a 2-lane highway, there were a few instances where lorries were overtaking other lorries and causing hold ups.  That and the Americans who insist on sitting in the fast lane!  What is that all about?

The scenery was fabulous.  As we approached Barstow, we drove past the Mojave Air & Space Port and an airplane graveyard (not far from California City), with a Virgin 747 clearly on display.

Barstow to Las Vegas

The Starbucks at Barstow was not very peaceful.  It was busy and the music was loud, so we didn’t hang around that long.  It was too hot to sit outside so we needed to enjoy the aircon inside.

We got back on the road and arrived at our usual Las Vegas Hilton Garden Inn by around 12:30pm.  There were classic long stretches on straight road amongst amazing scenery.  There’s nothing better than Nevada/Arizona scenery on the road.

When we got to our final destination we took a look at the odometer and we had done over 2670 miles – we both concluded that was too much driving for a relatively short holiday.
