Not too far to drive today: about 140 miles to Monterey. On the way, we plan to stop off at Sausalito, just to the north of San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Vick didn’t have a very good night’s sleep: she was awake for a portion of the night due to indigestion. I slept through that and the hot/cold temperature in the room. When the air con came on we had it set to 68 deg F and it was good and cold; chilly even. When it went off, it turned really warm really quickly. So, we couldn’t get a constant temp in the room. Poor design if you ask me.
We had a leisurely start to the day. I popped over to the local Starbucks to pick up coffees at around 6am (it was only 12 deg c at that point in the day) and we chilled out in the room until we needed to get up.
Our Thoughts on the Best Western Wine Country
An awful hotel. There was a teenager in a track suit on reception that checked us in – not a great representative for Best Western. The room had an awful balcony with a dim (vague) view of the pool. Safe to say we won’t be staying here again! Just a shame that the Hilton burnt down in 2017.
Our Thoughts on Santa Rosa
Nice little town with some fab restaurants. Not a lot else going on, but in a great place for wine tasting!
Santa Rosa to Sausalito
Our plan was to arrive at Sausalito at around 9am so that we could get some breakfast at a Starbucks just north of the town, then we would park up in Sausalito, specifically with the aim of visiting the Crazy Shirts store.
We left Santa Rosa at around 8:15am and Highway 101 was fairly busy, especially as we got closer to San Francisco. It was fairly cool, a little overcast, but the forecast was for mid 20s in the Bay area. We found a lovely, relatively new Starbucks where we enjoyed our (now) regular breakfasts.
Then we continued our drive south a few miles and parked up in the centre of Sausalito. Sausalito is a lovely little place, with great views of San Francisco and the Bay area.
Crazy Shirts was open and we got a friendly welcome from the manager. We found a few t-shirts we were interested in, and 20 mins later we were parting with some hard-earned cash.
