We had a pretty good night’s sleep and we woke up to the sound of the Pacific Ocean crashing on the rocks below our room. Although noisy it’s such a peaceful sound!
After a smashing breakfast we drove off to Cape Perpetua where we had a short walk and took some photos of the stunning views of the coast.
We then made good progress down the 101 and stopped off for the traditional coffee at an independent coffee house/bookstore called Grounds in North Bend (close to Coos Bay). I tried their Raspberry Cheesecake which was tremendous.
We stopped off at Shore Acres State Park where we shot around a botanical garden and more stunning views of the coastline. By this time it was getting very misty/foggy so visibility was starting to be restricted.
The rest of the journey to Crescent City was ‘very cold’ according to Vick (I was still in a t-shirt and wanting the hood down at this point), and we could see almost nothing from the road, it was that misty.
We reached the Hilton branded Hampton Inn in Crescent City by about 5pm. The receptionist was very helpful and provided an upgrade when encouraged. She also advised on a good restaurant – Bistro Garden, which was the best one in the city.
I have to say that Crescent City is one of those places you wouldn’t choose to visit – it’s like stopping off at Warrington when you are on your way from London to Edinburgh! It was dead grotty in some places, but it served it’s purpose.
We seem to have some noisy neighbours in the next room, who seem to have learnt how to play the harmonium. Hopefully they won’t be playing later on when we are asleep!
