Holiday to Pacific West Coast in Jun 2012: Day 6 – San Diego
Woke slightly later today so jet lag is wearing off now. Aiming to go out to Torrey Pines State Reserve today.
Breakfast was ok at this Homewood Suites hotel, but not a patch on Hilton Garden Inn. It’s a bit more of a scrum to get to buffet counter to get hot food. Can’t complain it is free after all.
We headed down to TPSR early but even though it was only 12 miles away it took us a while to find the entrance even though it was clearly sign posted. We went up and down a 2 mile steep highway a number of times before we saw the entrance – I put it down to Vick’s age! (And I put it down to Nige driving so fast we go sailing past all the signs!)
It was a fairly dull morning compared to the bright sun/heat of Palm Springs which we are already starting to miss. TPSR is a very beautiful place for nature lovers with great views. Loads of people around today, so it’s very popular with the locals. Even popular with joggers. It’s very hilly and there are lots of trails.
After TPSR we headed back to the hotel to do the washing in the laundry. Whilst that was on we popped into Starbucks (surprise surprise) [thanks Jax for being our pseudonym], and into Subway for lunch.
We chilled out in the afternoon and then went into San Diego to find the Crazy Shirt shop at Seaport Village where we invested in a number of great T Shirts, and then we had to go and find Ben & Jerry’s in Horton Plaza.
After a visit to Von’s the supermarket we had our first dinner in on this holiday, and watched a disturbing movie with Rachel Weisz in, on Pay TV.
Stats for Day 6: 30 miles.
Plan for tomorrow is to drive to Oxnard.
