Holiday to Pacific West Coast in Jun 2012: Day 10 – Monterrey

Had a leisurely day in Monterey today.  We woke at a reasonable time and ambled down to breakfast at 7:30am where we found the option of Eggs Benedict on the menu.

So again the fruit breakfast went out of the window.  Tomorrow perhaps?

Vick decided she needed some decent shoes for walking after her problems with slipping off rocks over the past few days, but something less substantial than walking boots.

So we found a Merrell stockist locally and headed there for 9:30.

We popped into Bank of America on the way to take out some cash, and were greeted by a charming guy at The Treadmill who was extremely helpful messing around with Vick’s feet (he was lovely, Vick wishes she had shaved her legs).

Next stop was the Del Monte shopping mall to go to Macy’s and to pick up lunch from Whole Foods Market.

The shopping mall wasn’t anything much to shout about but we managed to find a Starbucks and we checked out Macy’s.  Not much else to see here though.

After popping back to the hotel we then went out to Lovers Point Park on Ocean View Boulevard for a walk along the coast which was quite dramatic – we came across some very aggressive seagulls and some really cute squirrels which Vick had lunch with (well she shared her lunch with them).

Got some good video of the seagulls performing some tricks and good photos of the squirrels.

Then we got back in the car and went around 17 mile drive.

Got some great photos although it was again fairly misty (and cold) all the way round.  No significant sun today – it remained misty almost all day, so was fairly chilly.

We saw some lovely seals who thought they were dolphins, jumping up out of the sea and having a great time playing.

One thing we haven’t mentioned so far is the number of mustangs we have seen on Highway 1 – we counted 5 in a line at one stage (actually one was a crappy Chrysler Seabreeze).

And I have decided that whenever we see one we have to wave as if we are in a group family thing.  I’ve not had any waves back so far… (all the yanks think we’re strange).

We drove into Monterey for dinner.  We found Rosine’s (an American/Italian) which was ok – masses of food – untrue amounts.  I found a tremendous breaded steak dish with heavenly mash and gravy with veg!  (What a sophisticated man you are).

Stats for Day 10: 35 miles.  (OMG that’s boring, who wants to know that?!)

Plan for tomorrow is to hit the road early to get to Yosemite at a decent time.  Driving time will be 4-5 hours so we will be packed up ready to go tonight, in to breakfast for 6:30am and on the road by 7am.  Mrs B had better be ready otherwise I’m going without her… (yeah right, whose gonna find you a Starbucks??)
