At Dublin, we were first off, and we headed to the first flight connections, almost opposite Gate 414. There was no sign to say it was closed, but it became evident that the door at the end of the short corridor wasn’t going to open.

We walked towards the exit, assuming we might need to head to the left and into the main flight connections, but that was fenced off. So that was closed as well.

Our only option was for us to exit through the passport kiosks and back in through security.

Fast Track Security was also closed and again no signs to that effect. Luckily, there was no one else going through security at that time.

Back to the gate with time to spare, less a pair of reading glasses that I left at security. I would need to buy a new pair at Boots in the morning.

Group 0 boarding was announced, and we were back on board into seats 01F and 01D.

The captain mentioned those dreaded words: IT issue – delay in getting the flight plan. But luckily it didn’t hold us up for too long.

The flight back wasn’t desperately eventful. Neither of us accepted the offer of another salad, but we did enjoy a bag of nuts to go with our drinks.

The captain was confident of getting us back to Heathrow by 9:30pm, but I suspected he meant landing rather than arrival.

In the end, we landed around 9:35pm and were on stand about 5 mins later at Gate A22.

Stand guidance was on, and there was no particular delay in opening the door.

Quick note about the cabin crew who were brilliant throughout. They built a really good rapport with the passengers, which is always one of the keys to delivering great service.

Back to our bus-catching-challenge! Luckily, we were first off ther aircraft, and we jogged through Arrivals and the baggage hall.

I didn’t think we would be able to keep up the pace, but just as we arrived at the bus stop, the bus turned up. Good result.

I managed to check in online, whilst on the bus. Digital key worked to get us into the room, but the lights worked on having a physical key. I had to jog back down to the front desk. Crikes!

The room was fine, but it was hardly a suite…
