Holiday to Hawaii in Aug 2013: Our Route
So which route are we taking then? Direct? No… Why take the easy route. After all this is not only a holiday, but also a mileage run.
We start our adventure in Brussels (of all places), due to our flights being secured during a recent ex-EU American Airlines (AA) sale, so we will be heading out to Brussels from Manchester on Thu 22 Aug on SN2178 (Brussels Airways).
We are staying overnight at the airport (Starwood Hotel) and then catching AA6423 (op by BA) to Heathrow and connecting to AA6168 (op by BA) to Washington for the transatlantic (TATL) sector.
This TATL sector is served by a 747 and we’ve managed to get some good seats on the upper deck (UD).
We are staying overnight in Washington at a Hilton Garden Inn and the following day we head off to LA on AA263 and then on to Honolulu on AA297.
We have two nights in Honolulu at the Hilton Hawaiian Village before taking our first island hop on HA148 to Big Island where we stay for four nights at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.
Then we take our second Island hop on HA2690 to Maui for another four nights at the Hilton Grand Wailea.
Then we do our final island hop back on HA385 to Honolulu for two nights, staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village again, before heading back home.
Our return journey takes us to LA on AA162 where we are staying overnight at a Hilton Garden Inn, then we take AA144 to Washington where we stay overnight at the same Hilton Garden Inn, and then finally our TATL sector is taken care of by AA6167 (op by BA) to Heathrow (UD again), on to Brussels on AA6425, and then back to Manchester on SN2177.
We estimate that’s over 18,000 air miles – it’s the furthest we have ever planned to fly in a single trip.
