Holiday to Canada in Aug 2024: Day 9 – Montreal to Kingston

We decided to make an early start this morning. Partly due to the awful breakfast served up at the Homewood Suites and partly due to local Starbucks stores opening a little later than normal on a Sunday.

So, we were on the road at around 7am, aiming for a Starbucks about 21 mins out of Montreal.

The driving route was a reverse of our drive from Wellington to Montreal, other than the fact that we headed a little further down the 401.

At the Starbucks in L’Île-Perrot, we enjoyed our normal drinks, Vick had her egg bites, and I enjoyed a double bacon and cheese sandwich.

That got the blood pumping around our bodies for the drive south-west.

We pressed on to a supercharger in Morrison, which was almost 90 mins further down the road, where we were fully charged after 40 mins.

Considering how warm it has been since we got here, yesterday we had our first rain, and today it was bitterly cold.

We have also noticed how windy it has been. It has been noticeable on the road, trying to keep the car in a straight line.

At our charging stop, we loaded up with snacks to keep us going.

I ate one of my bags of Haribo before we left the charging station!

We also saw an F150 spread across two charging bays trying to charge up.

It wouldn’t gave been too bad if he had actually parked neatly. Waster…

The next Starbucks stop was at Brockville. In fact, we popped in here a few days when we stayed in The Vault at the Rob Thompson hotel.

It wasn’t quite as good a visit this time. They mistook my order for a venti as a grande and then only half-filled it up. Cheapskates…

The final leg to Kingston took about an hour, and the temperature was struggling to increase above 15 degrees c.

We arrived at The Delta Hotel in Kingston around 1pm. Our room wasn’t ready, but we settled down in the foyer to work out what we would do in Kingston.

Within 15 mins, we were advised our room was ready, although it was only on the second floor.

After dumping our stuff in our room, we decided to walk out on the Waterfront Trail, which was very pleasant, but windy and cool.

Consequently, we didn’t stay out very long. It felt like we had been blown back to the hotel!

Vick selected  classic Thai restaurant, which we were both looking forward to.

The Mango Thai & Pan-Asian Cuisine sounded great – it offered classic Thai meals, which was exactly what we were looking for.

We visited late afternoon, so it was nice and empty.

The staff were very friendly and helpful with their advice, but we knew what we wanted.

To start with, we ordered the chicken satay and chicken spring rolls.

Both were really good. The chicken spring rolls came with a lovely light, but sweet sauce.

The chicken satay came with a rich peanut sauce.

Great start, but often Asian meals start well, but peter off…

For main course, we opted for a chicken penang curry and a chicken cashew dish.

Vick’s cashew dish was rich and tasty. My penang curry was nice, but there was a depth of flavour was missing.

Overall, it was a pretty decent meal. Not perfect though.

From the restaurant, we popped into the Shoppers Drug Mart to see whether they might have Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake in a tub, but nothing doing.

But we did find various chocolate bar alternatives.

We also popped into White Mountain Homemade Ice Crea, shop where we tried a single scoop of ice cream. Nice, but it wasn’t quite B&Js!

Back to our room and we planned our final trip back down to Toronto.
