Over Easter 2014 we took a trip to Helsinki – our first visit to Finland. It was partly to allow us to try out the CCR at Heathrow T5 and partly just to get away.

The day that we depart on holiday to the USA is always a great day, but it had been tinged with a bit of sadness and guilt due to our pussies not liking the noise of the fireworks. I was second off behind the first officer, and it took a while to work out my bearings in the airport. I was concerned about going too far and missing transit security, but it became pretty obvious.

I got into the CCR and went for a shower to freshen up. The lounges felt pretty busy, but I managed to find a quiet seat.

A short shuttle bus to the Tom Bradley International Terminal, and we were soon heading through TSA Pre-Check. Once through, we headed straight into the Qantas First Lounge and found some relaxing recliner seats.
