We both woke in the middle of the night – that’s not much of a surprise. When I looked at the clock, I thought it said 1:55, so I thought we had done really well to sleep as late as that.  It wasn’t until Vick corrected me – it was actually 11:55 (I couldn’t see the first 1 from my angle of view), so we hadn’t even made it into the following day!

We managed to get back to sleep and I got another (almost) two hours.  Vick got an extra hour on top of that.

The local Starbucks was due to open at 4:30am, so that was our focus for the early part of the day.  Breakfast was likely to start at 6am and we had selected the Chuckwalla Trail for a fairly easy 2 mile walk for the morning, hopefully before it got too warm.  We were planning to head into Palm Springs for lunch and Vick had even found a Thai restaurant for us for dinner.  Felt like a well planned day out in the desert.

We walked over to Starbucks; it was actually fairly chilly at that time in the morning, but it was lovely seeing all of the illuminated palm trees.  The lady in Starbucks was a bit ditzy and we laughed at the different use of words in English and American.
